Hello!  My name is Amy Barrutia and I am studying Elementary Education.  Once I get my Idaho teaching certificate I would like to work with lower grade elementary students.  I love witnessing the moment when new knowledge clicks for a student and you can almost see the light bulb above their head.
In order to achieve these moments, students need to have access to many different learning tools and one of these is technology.  In an age where kids are learning to use computers as preschoolers, it is imperative to integrate technology into the classroom.  Technology allows teachers to go inside worlds that may have otherwise been unreachable, such as the Great Barrier Reef or even the Moon.
I recently created a webquest to teach 4th grade students about the Moon.  Although text books are a great source of information, the various sources that can be provided with a webquest are much more diverse and more likely to keep students intrigued about the material.  Webquests allow students to work together in groups and the tasks are divided between the groups.  This allows for teamwork and brainstorming of ideas without the students feeling overwhelmed by the material.  Check out my webquest, "Adventure to the Moon" for more details.

  1. Hi Amy,
Nice job on being our team leader! I like the design of your blog. I see we both like working with younger elementary students. Good luck with your program. I'm sure you'll make a great teacher!

I appreciate you being our team leader. You have a great understanding of the importance of technology and how you would like to use it in your teaching practices one day. Great job and best of luck to you in the future.
